A comparison between the most graphically detailed eyes in gaming
Main Post:
Seriously though, we have plateaud when it comes to graphical fidelity, so why don't most AAA game developers focus more on the aspects that actually matter, such as fun gameplay or good writing? They could learn a thing or two from the indie scene.

Eye-Gaze Accessible Games
Main Post:
Hi everyone! I am a Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) working in a public day school for children with severe-profound (varying) disabilities. We have a lot of students who are using eye-gaze communication devices (i.e., Tobii-Dynavox, PRC-Saltillo, etc.). Are there any eye-gaze accessible games on Steam that would be compatible with an eye-tracking device? Or maybe is there a program that would be able to adapt a game to use the eye-gaze mouse-dwelling functions? I hope that makes sense! Thank you!
Top Comment: On steam there are slim pickings, but I'll see if I can dig up the one or two I found. They are not fully gaze-enabled, but more gaze-augmented. There are some fully gaze enabled games: Kinka Games -- these aren't the most complicated, but good for basic eye gaze learning as and for younger kids. Eye Can Fly -- also fully accessible -- not very deep content but enough game modes to be engaging. EyeMot series -- in japanese, developed more in an academic vs. commercial space, so take that into account, however, they are free and engaging enough. You could also dig a big into https://oneswitch.org.uk/page/switch-gaming and see if an gaze>mouse solution could enable some of what's there. Same goes for https://www.eyegazegames.com

Board/card games with a speed and/or hand-eye coordination mechanic?
Main Post:
Hi everyone--
I'm relatively new to the hobby and am wondering if anyone can point me towards any board or card games that use player's hand speed or hand-eye coordination as a mechanic? I'm thinking about card games like Spoons, War, or Slapjack, but with some more depth and strategy than those games contain.
My wife really enjoys when we play casual games of Spoons at our friends house (she gets really into the competitiveness of rushing to grab the spoons), so I'm wondering if there are any published games (or print-and-play for that matter) that capture some of the excitement of Spoons but with a bit more strategy and depth. Thanks for any ideas or suggestions!
Top Comment: Jungle Speed No real strategy though. HexHex Next has some of it as well. Edit: added Next.

All goated I just wish the maharaka tokens could be exchanged for silver. I only need so much food.
What games do you recommend to keep an eye on for the Autumn sale?
Main Post:
Hey everyone so the Autumn sale is set to start tomorrow and my birthday was yesterday so I've got a fair bit of Steam cash and I was wonder what you would recommend to keep an eye on?
Feel free to post whatever you think in a good choice so other can see it,
Top Comment: Here's what I do First. Check steamdb.info and see what games are trending on the day of the sale. They will generally have the popular games which had a deep sale, maybe for the first time too. Second. Set the filter to under $5 or under $10 and see the highest rated ones. Third. Gaming subreddits. If some great game is on deep discount then there should be 1 post that you'll scroll by with the game name.

Can't believe they are going to rely on Jeremy Renner for ball spotting
Had my eye on the Yakuza games. Would starting from the PS5 releases get me up to speed before the Pirate game comes?

Top Comment: The only way you’re going to be “caught up to speed” is if you play every single main line Yakuza. Pirate Yakuza is a standalone game that will probably only have references and Easter eggs to the other Yakuza games. Only direct references will most likely be to Ichiban from Yakuza Like A Dragon and what’s going on during Infinite Wealth. So either play those 2 so you can get direct references or play every single one if you want to catch even the smallest of references.
What is the origin of the phrase “it’s all fun and games until (some unwanted or negative occurrence)”?
Main Post:
It seems like it could come from some ‘70s or ‘80s movie, but I’m not sure.
Top Comment: ngrams doesn't turn up much from before the 90s. Searching Google Books, I found this 1970 book that includes "it was all fun and games until Woodrow Wilson landed the Marines at Veracruz."
Googly eyes, didn’t think I would see it in person
Main Post:
I work at target, I was doing someone’s return and they showed me this
Top Comment: What if people start doing this to get extra copies of games? Buy the game, swap it for a googly eye, bring it to target and say “I never got the game, just this weird googly eye!” Then they get either a refund or a second copy for free. I feel like retailers might have to address this soon if it’s as big as Reddit is making it seem

Top Comment: Spider-Man 2 The first Platinum trophy that I’ve ever tried to get. & that was due to the experience being an absolute fucking blast. My favorite version of the Arkham style combat to date & my favorite movement system in any game. A fantastic looking world with nonstop reasons to continue swinging through it. It didn’t feel as cluttered as the original but didn’t feel nearly as sparse as Miles Morales. All the side activities felt like they had rewarding payoffs, even when some of them felt trivial at first. The voice acting & performances were phenomenal. The story was great, with plenty of amazing moments. Incredibly well paced. Really just 25 hours of pure fun, swinging from strength to strength, with no genuine criticisms from me. I can understand the criticism of it being too short, but only because it was so much fun that I could’ve easily done another 25 hours of it. It has swung its way into the third spot on my 2023 GotY list & is looking like it will land somewhere in my top 25 of all time. While it isn’t my GotY, I find it absurd how many people were getting angry that others were calling it their Game of the Year. It absolutely has the juice to deserve that. Cocoon Finished this somewhere under the 4 hour mark. A really, really great time. Fantastic sense of progression, beautiful artstyle/world & a really great puzzler in general. It isn’t the most clever puzzle game of all time but it was just enough to make me feel clever without ever getting bogged down. The first half of the game I thought it was gonna end up being just a good game but the last half of the game just continued to surprise me with its creativity. I thought it was pretty weak in its storytelling until the ending, which did a lot of carrying in that department. I didn’t really like the parts where you are flying & having to hit the diamonds in the air, but that was the only part I didn’t enjoy. It has emerged at the fifth spot on my 2023 GotY list. Far Cry 6 I hadn’t played a Far Cry game since 2018 & this was on sale for $15 so I decided to grab it... ...I played about 4 hours & really just didn’t enjoy it. The game looks great, I still love the companion system, the guns felt good, I liked the location & there were still a couple cool Far Cry moments. But I didn’t enjoy the changes to cutscenes, I didn’t like the weapon upgrade system from what I had seen & my biggest complaint was the new health/weakness system for the enemies. That just wasn’t Far Cry to me. I want to sneak into a base & have a blast clearing it. Nope. I gotta analyze enemies, figure out their weakness, change parts of my loadout & adapt to the enemies. Nah, I’m good. Might give it a try in the future but I don’t really have a hankering to. I’ll probably just wait until Avatar is deep on sale to get my Far Cry fix. Nier Automata Started this for the first time a few nights ago. I’ve only played up to the first save point but I’m fully drawn in. Very excited to keep going. Sea of Thieves Been playing this with buddies since it launched on PlayStation. A blast whether everything is clicking as a crew or you lead your ship into a disaster. The 22 hours I’ve put in have been a great time. I’m doubtful that I’ll be able to get much deeper into the game though. There doesn’t seem to be significantly rewarding reasons to go super deep into the game & I’m the most committed of my friends. I am down to finish the last 3 tall tales but none of my friends really enjoy them. Most of the people we come across are way better at ship battles, so those can be fun but rarely go in our favor. It has sailed its way into the eighth slot on my 2018 GotY list. I’ll keep playing here & there & hopefully some of my friends commit a bit more but, at minimum, it was a blast while it lasted.
